College and Pranab College during the national seminar in Dimapur on Friday.
- DIMAPUR — A
two-day national seminar on “Understanding India’s northeast: ethnicity,
identity and issues of conflict” on hybrid mode got underway at the MGM
auditorium, Midland, Dimapur, on Friday.
- The seminar is being organised by the IQAC Cell of Pranab
College, in collaboration with IQAC Cell of MGM College, and sponsored by
ICSSR-NERC.
- Speaking at the Inaugural session, Fr. Giju George,
administrator of MGM College, emphasised the importance of academic discussion
in nation-building. He also expressed gratitude to Pranab College for their
collaboration to conduct the seminar.
- Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap,
chancellor Nagaland University (NU), underscored the relevance of critical
thinking, social responsibility and the enhancement of teacher quality through
social science research. He pointed out the unique socio-ethnic structure of
the northeast and how deliberations in such seminars contribute to understanding
identity, gender and ethnicity.
- He stated that research and analysis are vital in
understanding the northeast and cautioned scholars against relying on
fabricated information.
- In conclusion, Dr. Kashyap extended his best wishes and
expressed anticipation for the recommendations from the two-day seminar, aiming
to further enhance the understanding of northeast.
- The presenters of the seminar included scholars, teachers
and intellectuals from different colleges and universities across northeast.
- Participants included Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, joint
secretary of Pranab College, principal, faculty and students’ council from both
Pranab College and MGM College and the Post Graduate students of Pranab
College.
- It mentioned that the seminar served as a platform for
insightful discussions on ethnic diversity, identity and conflict resolution
mechanisms in northeast India, thereby contributing to both academic discourse
and policy perspectives.
