DIMAPUR — A one-day seminar on ‘Counselling skills for teachers and how to be an effective teacher’ was conducted at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School in Viswema village under Kohima district on Thursday.
An update from the school stated that Kehelingle Ramlia, psychotherapist and director of Ramzie School, Jalukie, and Rev. Fr. C Joseph, counsellor at St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, were the resource persons.
In her address, Ramlia stated that counselling is not a set of skills which could be strung together on a necklace of prescribed processes but more to do with one’s approach and attitude towards others.
Speaking on how to be an effective teacher, Fr. C Joseph mentioned twelve professional characteristics of effective teachers and asked the participants to become effective teachers, focusing on strong classroom management, engaging lesson planning, building positive relationships with students and fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
He further stated that effective teachers also demonstrate enthusiasm, clear expectations and adaptability to meet diverse student needs.
The seminar concluded with a prayer and vote of thanks.
