MOKOKCHUNG — A one-day seminar-cum-awareness programme on the challenges faced by persons with disabilities was held in Mokokchung on August 13.
Held in collaboration with the Mokokchung Baptist Arogo and the Mokokchung District Disabled Association (MDDA), the programme aimed to reach out to church bodies in Mokokchung and promote greater awareness and understanding of the lives, needs, and challenges faced by persons with disabilities (PwDs) in society.
The President of the MDDA, Imkongnungchet Kichu, outlined the objectives of the programme, stating that it was the first such initiative organised in Mokokchung since the association's inception in 2018.
He expressed his gratitude to the participating church bodies for their support and active involvement, as well as for their willingness to promote greater understanding, inclusion, and support for persons with disabilities.

The programme was conducted in two sessions. Advisor to the MDDA Arenli Jamir served as the moderator for the first session. The second session was led by State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Tongpang L Jamir, who spoke on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. He highlighted the key provisions of the Act and elaborated on the rights and entitlements of persons with disabilities.
The Secretary of Finance and Property of ABAM, Maong Jamir, addressed the topic "Arogo and Arogo Minority", highlighting the role of the church in supporting and assisting persons with disabilities within the community. He offered insights into the ways in which the church can contribute to the welfare, inclusion, and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
