DIMAPUR — A seminar for village functionaries under Kuhuboto sub-division in Niuland district was conducted on Tuesday at town hall, Kuhuboto, on the theme, ‘Strengthening good governance and local self-government at grass root level.’
The seminar, organised by the Niuland district administration under the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner Sarah S Jamir, was attended by the VCCs, VCMs and GBs from all 25 villages and towns under Kuhuboto, an update stated.
The seminar dwelled on important aspects of local government, including ‘Nagaland Village and Area Council Act 1978,’ ‘Rules for Administration of Justice and Police in Nagaland,’ VDB Model Rules, ST/IIC/PRC, ILP, roles and functions and appointment of GBs.
The main objective of the seminar was to sensitise and make aware, to educate and empower village leaders on key governance frameworks, to strengthen local administration and promote effective grassroots leadership.

It also aimed to enable the village leaders to effectively function as auxiliaries to the district administration at the village level.
The resource persons were Nuhuta Tunyi, SDO Civil Kuhuboto, and Khenpa Bohlim, EAC Aghunaqa.
Hokiye Yeptho, head GB Khehokhu village; Khekiye, president KGPO; Tokato, president of KGKK, also shared experiences and thoughts on the occasion.
