Dimapur, August 29 (EMN): In order to achieve the goal of doubling the farmers’ income, a semi intensive mithun rearing component was introduced in Gidemi, Phek on, Tuesday August 29.
The programme was graced by Dr. R.S Gandhi, additional director general of Animal Science (AP&B), ICAR New Delhi and Dr. Abhijit Mitra, director NRC on Mithun and Scientist from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek.
Dr. R K Singh, senior scientist and head of KVK Phek welcomed dignitaries and emphasised on the importance of livestock for enhancing the economy of the farmers.
Dr. Kobu Khate, CTO, ICAR-NRC on Mithun described about the semi intensive mithun rearing system and how it can play role in achieving higher income.
Director NRC on Mithun, Dr. Mitra, spoke on the benefits of rearing animals and avenues to generate income through this enterprise. He shared success stories and experiences and expressed his views with a tag line that ‘M’ for Mithun that also signifies Meat, Milk, Money and Marriage.
Dr. Gandhi handed over insignia of mithun and a letter of approval to contribute 5 mithun heifers as new initiative under this programme. He also appealed to the farmers to take the advantage of the KVK and NRC on Mithun by adopting latest technologies for enhancing their socio-economic status of the village.
Village council chairman expressed his gratitude to the institute for selecting their village as a model and the programme.
