Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): The Sekrenyi mini-Hornbill festival culminated at Tuophema village, Kohima on Feb. 27 after three days of celebration. Advisor for Rural Development Dr. Neikiesalie Kire was the special guest of the final day of the event. Neikesalie said during the culmination programme of Sekrenyi that mini-Hornbill festival is celebrated to promote the festivals of all the tribes in the state, according to an update by DPRO Kohima. Responding to the opposition’s claimed that this year’s budget focuses on more on entertainment and sports, he said that the ‘government want the youth to venture into different fields since everyone cannot get government jobs.’ He invited the foreigners, who attended Sekrenyi, to come again for main Hornbill festival in December. He also said that “children should be taught on how our forefathers lived” and opined that it is not wise to send the children outside the state for studies at a very young age as it may lead to disassociation from one’s culture and tradition. Competition on various indigenous games like tug of war, catapult shooting, top spinning, greased pole climbing, folk song and war cry was held during the event.
