KOHIMA, JULY 13
The youth and women bodies of Upper Agri, Kohima led by colony council leaders have seized banned Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL), being sold in the colony jurisdiction, and destroyed them in public view on Monday. In this connection, one defaulter was identified and made to sign an agreement with the council not to indulge anymore in such activities.
This was done as part of the council’s decision to give the colony a major clean up which includes promoting sanitation and banning anti-social activities such as selling of alcohol and other banned items etc. Council members present during the destruction of the seized liquor expressed concern that though selling of any type of alcohol is banned in the colony, yet some people in several pockets of the colony continue to indulge in the illegal activity.
The colony’s council, youth and women leaders have decided to enforce the ban with a renewed vigour, an elderly resident informed. “If all the people, both young and old, join hands together in enforcing stern action against defaulters then we will definitely have a cleaner area and a cleaner town,” he added. The council further cautioned those indulging in selling of alcohol in the colony to stop or face consequences.
