Dimapur, July 18 : Lamenting on the unfortunate death of two minor children during the Wuzu firing incident, the Judicial Inquiry Commission has clarified on the apprehensions and displeasure expressed by civil societies, organisations during Candle Light Service held at Kohima on July 16.
Secretary to the Judicial Inquiry Commission K.Naben in a press note said, the question or delay in submitting the report by the JIC does not hold water and requested the stakeholders to bear with the Commission and extend cooperation for early submission of the report.
"The Commission initiated the process of enquiry and some witnesses filed written statements were also received but found those written statements not in proper order."
"Meanwhile, the government (vice letter, dated 9th December, 2015) desired that the report of the Dimapur jail breaking incident and lynching case be submitted first pending the Wuzu firing incident. Hence put off the process. The report of the JIC Dimapur jail breaking incident was finally submitted on 9th March. 2016."
"The then Secretary to the Commission resigned in the month of April and the new Secretary could be posted/attached only on 10-05-20 l 6."
"The Commission undertook a tour to Meluri on 17th June, and held press conference in the Dobashi's Court of Meluri Headquarter on the 18th June, 2016 where all the Administrative and police officers, public leaders of Pochury Hoho, Pochury Mothers' Association, Phokhungri Area Public Organisation, Pochury Students Union, Pochury Youth Association, village leaders of both Wuzu and Phor and parents of the deceased victims/ injured woman attended besides media persons from local dallies."
The press note said, "The Commission sensitized the administration and police officers based at Meluri and leaders of the various aforementioned Pochury Public Organisations/Associations to come forward with written statements in the form of affidavits, where all leaders assured full co-operation to Judicial lnquiry Commission."
"Accordingly a notice was served on June 20, 2016 and within a period of one month's time the witnesses are supposed to file the written statements in affidavits to the office of the Judicial Inquiry Commission. The date for filing written statement/s is to be on or before 20th July, 2016."
