Security personnel on duty at BSL-2 inaugural event in Tuensang tests Covid-19 positive

Dimapur, Aug. 31 (EMN): A security personnel, who attended the inaugural function of the bio-safety level-2 (BSL-2) laboratory at the District Hospital Tuensang, on August 28, is one of the 13 persons tested positive for Covid-19.

A reliable source informed this to Eastern Mirror on Monday. The minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, inaugurated the BSL-2 lab in Tuensang in the presence of many dignitaries last week.

The chief medical officer (CMO) of Tuensang also confirmed the news of a security personnel being tested positive for the virus and added that all those who attended the lab inaugural function were under self-isolation and testing will be done via TrueNat.

‘Samples of the administrative officers and personnel were taken on Sunday and all are negative through TrueNat,’ informed the CMO.

The CMO also informed that the DC office, including the office of the superintendent of police and Circuit house, were sealed on Sunday for 48 hours till further orders.

“The offices are sealed for sanitisation; all contact tracing underway,” the CMO informed, adding that the security personnel, who tested positive, had visited three places.

The DC of Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant, also informed this newspaper that the security personnel was on duty and in-charge of security for the visit of the VIPs.

“All those attended the BSL-2 inauguration have been informed and been asked to go for self-isolation,” informed the DC.

Out of the 13 cases, six are informed to be returnees, five from Shamator block who were under quarantine, one primary contact and the mentioned security personnel. All have been isolated and are asymptomatic, it was informed.

The DC had earlier issued a notice, informing about the 13 persons being tested positive for Covid-19 via TrueNat and later through RdRp gene confirmation.

Tuensang currently has recorded 67 Covid-19 positive cases with 21 active and 46 recovered cases.
