Security measures in Dimapur should be enhanced as cases of blast have increased in the past few months. The Monday night blast incident in the heart of this commercial hub has brought once again fear psychosis among the people. The law and order situation is indeed grim. It is in fact because the state administration has not been effective in carrying out its job. According to the police, the person injured in the Monday night blast hails from People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangkeipak (PREPAK). The police also said it could be an accidental blast which occurred when the militants were trying to plant the bomb at Eros Lane, Dimapur. It was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). More IEDs were recovered by the police from a Manipur registered Maruti car used by the PREPAK militants. The police did not say these PREPAK militants came all the way from Manipur to Dimapur. The police also did not say the reason why the PREPAK cadres were in Dimapur. But the situation indicates that both the militants came all the way from Imphal valley. PREPAK is a valley based outfit operating mostly in Imphal area. They also used Manipur registered car. Again, PREPAK is solely a Meitei based group fighting for the liberation of Kangleipak (the Meiteis term for Manipur). Now, how could these PREPAK cadres manage to reach Dimapur carrying three bulky IEDs? There are numerous security check points in this 220 km long distance (Dimapur to Imphal). The integrity and efficiency of the security force personnel manning these check points between Imphal and Dimapur are in question. The relevant authority should investigate into the matter. Regarding the Eros Lane incident, for the timing of the explosion just one person was hurt. It was late and also due to coldness the Eros Lane was empty when the incident happened. Had it been during the day time the impact of the blast would have been catastrophic for Eros Lane is one of the busiest streets in Dimapur.
