Dimapur, July 22 : The security forces have served a legal notice to a students’ organization over contentions associated with the recent candlelight service in memory of people that were killed allegedly by the Assam Rifles in Wuzu village of Phek in July 2015.
A copy of the legal notice was made available here on Friday. The notice was issued to the Pochury Students’ Union by the 46th Assam Rifles’ Charlie Company through a legal representative. According to the document, the Nagaland government had instituted an inquiry commission. Till date, there has yet to be any definite finding concerning who was actually responsible for the killing during said event in Phek.
The document also stated that the memorial was reported in local newspapers that had circulation outside the state as well; publicity, hence, before even the inquiry commission had placed any finding, was damaging to the image of the “client,” the notice stated.
The notice also stated that the matter was sub-judice and charging said security unit with gunning down the two persons even before the inquiry committee had tabled its finding, was ‘incorrect and defamatory in nature.’
The notice has demanded that the ‘news article be recalled’ immediately and that the students’ union tender unconditional apology for the ‘premature article.’
NSF calls for emergency meeting
The Naga Students’ Federation has requested its federating units and subordinate bodies, besides its “seniors”, to an emergency meeting to be conducted at 11 AM on July 25. The venue is the NSF’s conference hall, a note from the NSF issued to the media on Friday stated. The agenda will be on the “threat” and legal notice served to the Pochury Students’ Union by the Assam Rifles “for organizing the candlelight service,” the NSF stated. The NSF also invited the Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers’ Association, and the NPMHR and “other frontal organization” to the meeting as “the threat” is a 'concern of security for all the civil organisation leaders' and individuals,” the NSF claimed.
