
DIMAPUR — In an effort to ensure peaceful elections to the urban local bodies in the district, a security coordination meeting was held in the office of the deputy commissioner in Kohima on Friday.
A DIPR report stated that the meeting was attended by key officials including the returning officer and assistant returning officer for Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), various administrative officers, nodal officers, sector officers and sector commanders (SC).
It may be mentioned here that all the wards in Chiephobozou and five wards in KMC were declared uncontested, leaving 14 wards in Kohima to undergo elections.
Speaking at the meeting, the election observer for KMC, Anthony Ngullie, emphasised the importance of enhanced coordination and information sharing between sector officers and sector commanders. He urged officials to leverage their experience and employ effective strategies to manage any arising situations.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, highlighted potential influences from unwanted elements and advised the SO and SC to remain vigilant, gather information and maintain neutrality while performing their duties.
The DC also encouraged the officials to actively visit their wards, utilise common sense and wisdom and develop effective plans to address any challenge.
The additional superintendent of police, Kohima, informed that comprehensive security plan has already been set in place with sufficient security forces for the 76 polling stations in Kohima.
He added that flag marches and mobile patrolling have commenced.
