The speeding along the road leading to the Civil Secretariat in Kohima town as well as littering and picnicking in and around the government complex may now be on its way out. Kohima-based Tsieramia Youth Organization has issued a list of prohibitions and has warned violators of penalty. Tsieramia Youth Organization met recently to review the matters, specifically about activities that were not conducive for the environment and the local population. The organization issued a press release on Thursday, May 14, asking the public to adhere to the community rules they have stipulated.
In the first place, the organization has cautioned that rash driving along the road to the new Secretariat will no longer be tolerated. “It is observed that many persons using either government official vehicles or private vehicles are in the habit of driving at over speed on the new secretariat road for picnicking after office hours,” the organization stated.
The youth organization has resolved that from now, the “registration number(s) of such vehicles shall be noted ant the concern vehicle owner(s) shall be summoned through newspapers to report to the office of this organization with effect from the publication of this notice”.
Further, picnicking and “breaking of bottles” at Phezoucha (secretariat areas) has been prohibited. “Regular picnicking and breaking of bottles has become nuisance at the Secretariat area; therefore timely checking shall be carried out and appropriate action shall be initiated against any defaulter,” the youth stated.
The organization has also asked all individuals, government departments and others who have placed hoardings and signboards along the new Secretariat road. The Tsieramia Youth Organization has deliberated the hoardings and signboards that are lined along the new Secretariat road.
“It is found that, many hoarding owner firms, departments, individuals have put their boards without the consent of the Tsieramia community. The owners of all such standing hoardings and signboards are therefore requested to get it registered,” the youth’s press stated.
The standing hoardings and their structures will be removed by the organization and any complaint thereafter shall not be ‘entertained at any cost,’ the group said. “We, therefore request all concerned to take note of the above and adhere to the restrictions and bans with immediate effect and to take up necessary action on Hoardings and signboards in time”.
In other matters, the Tsieramia Youth Organization has banned hunting and “collecting jungle fowls” as well as burning jungles in the Tsieramia area. “The ban of hunting, collecting of jungle fowls and burning of jungles within the traditional jurisdiction Tsieramia Khel still stands, and any person(s) indulged in these banned activities shall be dealt severely as per the standing laws and rules,” the organization said.
The group has also banned the sale of liquor. “With the ban on sale of liquor in its jurisdiction and the follow-up action initiated recently by the LYO, the Tsieramia council has further resolved to strictly enforce this prohibition in its area. It is therefore notified to all concerned to strictly abstain from such banned activities,” the press release stated. The youths of Tsieramia will be undertaking routine checking in its jurisdiction the group informed.
