Imphal, Sep. 1 (EMN): Another round of the tripartite talks among the government of India, the government of Manipur and the United Naga Council (UNC) to resolve the issue of creation of new districts in the state, was held at the DRDA Conference Hall at Senapati district headquarter, 60 km north of Imphal on Saturday.
Today`s talks was chaired by Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary (NE), Ministry of Home Affairs, government of India. Agriculture, Veterinary & Animal Hubandry Minister V Hangkhanlian; Education, Labour & Employment Minister Thokchom Radheshyam and Public Health Engineering, Printing and Stationary Minister Losii Dikho represented the government of Manipur.
In the day’s talk, Secretary (TA & Hills) Athem Muivah and Secretary (Revenue/Consumers affairs food and public distribution) T Ranjit Singh assisted the ministers.
An eleven member UNC team headed by its President Gaidon Kamei, General Secretary S Milan including All Naga Students` Association Manipur President Joseph Adhani and Naga Women`s Union President Asha Wungnam attended the talk.
During the day’s talks which were aimed at finding an amicable solution following the creation of seven new districts in Manipur by the previous Congress government in Dec. 2016, the state government agreed that it could not come with a concrete proposal because of urgent issues before the government and requested for some more time to come out with a concrete proposal.
The state government understands the sentiments of UNC and committed that it would come out with definite concrete plans in the next meeting which will be schedule in the first week of Dec. 2018, it added. It may be recalled that the first round of tripartite talk was held on Mar. 19, 2017.
UNC President Gaidon Kamei reacting to the day’s talk told the reporters that they have already conveyed their final words to the state government and the state government is the author of the issue.
