DIMAPUR — In the second incident of damage to public property within ten days, a speeding vehicle rammed into a utility pole at Industrial Estate colony on February 22 at around 8.30 pm and fled towards Dillai Gate along NH-36.
Following the incident, the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) filed an FIR with Dimapur Traffic Police. DUCCF Vice President Tongzuk Pongen said that after the FIR was lodged, the accused came forward, met officials from the Power department on Monday, and agreed to bear the expenses for the repair work.
Pongen stated that if the accused fully takes responsibility, covers the repair costs, and issues an apology, the FIR may be withdrawn. However, he clarified that the matter will ultimately be decided by Dimapur Traffic Police in accordance with traffic rules and regulations.

He said that details of the vehicle involved were submitted at the time of filing the FIR, which led to the accused coming forward and taking responsibility. He maintained that anyone who damages public property must be held accountable and added that the DUCCF has taken the initiative to ensure that those responsible are compelled to own up to their actions.
The latest incident comes days after a similar case on February 14, when a vehicle damaged a road divider at Tajen Ao Road at the tri-junction connecting Duncan Bosti colony, Riverbelt colony and Fellowship colony in Dimapur. In that case, the DUCCF filed an FIR at West Police Station on February 15 but later withdrew it after the accused assured that the damage would be repaired.
