Kohima, Aug. 18: Sechu Zubza is on the verge of the winning the 2nd Kohima Football League as they beat 5th placed Khriekesa 4-0 during their league match to stay on top of the Kohima Football League on Saturday.
With a match remaining in the league, Sechu Zubza will only need a draw against 4th placed Twenty XI in the last match to win the league. Sechu Zubza has 23 points and Khriekesa FC remained in fifth place with 13 points. While 2nd placed defending champions Ziekiezuo SC has 21 points and New Market in third with 19 points.
Khriekesa FC were paid for the lack of finishing despite the numerous chances that came their way as Sechu converted from set-pieces to finish the game with a win.
Playing at the Kohima local ground, Sechu Zubza took the lead through Neikhotso Nagi in the 7th minute as Petevizo Kezieo assisted him to find the back of the net.
Velukho Rhakho almost scored a goal for Khriekesa FC when his teammate latched a through ball inside the area and over kick the ball over the keeper but the defender was there to clear the ball in the 21st minute.
Vimelie's header was saved by Zubza's goalkeeper minutes later to keep the team the lead.
Khiuwangbo Kaurinthah latches a throughball into Shurhosul’s path and his shot was deflected by the opponent defender Neilabeituo Shuya into its own net.
The first half ended 2-0 in favour of Sechu Zubza.
Khriekesa FC looked tired in the second half as they failed to make much impact while Sechu Zubza defended the score.
Vekhruto got his share of scoring when he came one on one with the keeper but failed to beat the keeper in the 61st minute.
Shurhosul Zhotso then scored in the 82nd minute and Hanglen Chang tapped in the fourth goal in 87th minute to finish the game.
Meanwhile, the league will be suspended for two days i.e., from Aug. 20- 21 the organisers have informed while the league will resume on Aug. 22. The fixtures for the remaining matches will be updated soon.
