Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 18 The Sechü clan held its conference on October 17 at Sechüma village. Altogether, participants from 26 villages from four districts of Chakhesang, Peren, Kohima and Dimapur took part in the one-day conference held at Sechüma village council hall. Speaking on the occasion, Thejao Vihienuo, vice president of Mera-Sechü-Rau-Thenyieu clan, urged the gathering to seek the truth while making research on the lineal ancestry. “While we continue to make proper research on the lineal ancestry of Sechü clansmen, let’s not deviate from the truth,” Vihienuo said while sharing his apprehension of the consequences that may follow if the truth is deviated. Towards this, he urged the elderly folks to guide the younger generation with the truth and only the truth. “Most of our history has no written records, and therefore we should be extra careful when we do our research works. There were times where we only wanted to own the good stories and disown the wrongs/errors that our forefathers committed in the past. But according to me, this is wrong. We should also accept the wrongs (if any) committed by our forefathers,” Vihienuo said while reiterating to stick only to the truth while history is being passed on to the younger generation. “It is proper before God and even before man to accept the truth and confess wherever necessary. Only when we tell the truth, I believe blessings will follow,” he added. Stressing the need to give a serious concern to restructuring of the present societal system, Vihienuo also urged all the parents to take responsibility of their parenting role. “Everything starts from the family, so as parents let’s devote more of our time to our family and children. Only when we lead from the front, we will be able to guide our children to the right path. And this is the beginning towards a better society,” he said. Other speakers who exhorted the gathering were Neikhriehu Kense, president, Kuda Sechü Union, Dimapur; Virul Kikhi, treasurer of Mera-Sechü-Rau-Thenyieu clan, from Viswema village, Zachisato Tetseo from Thüvophisümi village under Phek district and Kumoi Rau from Jalukie under Peren district. Earlier, the programme commenced with invocation pronounced by Roziekolie Nipu, pastor, CRC Sechüma, while Pelevisie Rhatsu, chairman, Sechüma Village Council delivered the welcome address. The programme was chaired by Satuo Sechü and vote of thanks tendered by Chacha Meyatsu.
