- DIMAPUR — Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO)
(Civil), Mon, Ajit Kumar, informed about the use of appropriate terminology for
persons with disabilities in communications and documents, as directed by the
Office of the Commissioner, Nagaland.
- All administrative officers under Mon district, all heads of
departments/offices in Mon, Nagaland, and the presidents of the Konyak Union,
Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, and Konyak Students’ Union, Mon, Nagaland, have been
requested to peruse the matter and ensure compliance with the government’s
directives on the use of appropriate and respectful terminology when referring
to persons with disabilities in all official communications and documents,
stated a DIPR report.
- It was listed that “divyangjan”, “divyangta”, and “divyang”
should replace the terms “viklang” and “viklangta”; “persons with disability”
should be used in place of “disabled”; “intellectual disability” instead of
“mental retardation”; and “hearing impaired” instead of “deaf and dumb”.
