Kohima, March 26 (EMN): The scrutiny of nominations to the ensuing elections to Lok Sabha and 26-Aonglenden assembly constituency came to a close on March 26, as per the directives of the Election Commission of India.
Following the scrutiny, Lok Sabha candidate Dr. MM Thromwa Konyak will not be allowed to represent the Andhra Pradesh-based Indian Christian Secular Party. Commissioner and Returning Officer, M Patton told reporters in Kohima on Tuesday that Konyak had failed to produce original copies issued by the party.
He will however be allowed to contest as an Independent candidate since his nomination papers were found to be valid, Patton said. The nomination papers filed by all the candidates were found valid, according to the commissioner.
The other three candidates for the lone Lok Sabha seat are Tokheho Yepthomi of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, KL Chishi of the Congress, and Hayithung Tungoe of the National People’s Party.
For the by-election to the 26-Aonglenden assembly constituency, four candidates—Sharingain Longkumer (NDPP), O Tinujungshi Longkumer (NPP), Toshipokba (NPF) and Alemjongshi Longkumer (Congress)—are in the fray.
Meanwhile, the last date of withdrawal of candidatures is March 28, till 3 pm.
Patton also informed that the inspection of accounts of the candidates’ election expenses for the upcoming general election to Lok Sabha 2019 has been fixed. The first inspection is on Mach 29, second and third inspection on April 4 and the 8th respectively.
The chief electoral officer of Nagaland Abhijit Sinha shared the latest figures, and security measures adopted, in connection with the upcoming election to the Lok Sabha and 26-Aoenglenden assembly constituency. According to the CEO’s final published electoral roll, the total electors in Nagaland to the general election to Lok Sabha 2019 stands at 1213777. The female voters are 598503 and male voters, 615274.

Total service electors are 7490 out of which 7415 are male and 75 female. The total number of polling stations is 2227; while the number of all-women polling team is 255.
As many as 280 polling stations have been identified for live streaming. The officer said that about 450 polling stations were considered vulnerable and critical, particularly those that come under the Aonglenden assembly constituency. Subsequently, web casting and videography facilities have been provided at those locations, he said.
Offline videography will be conducted at 170 polling stations. This will be mainly in places where good connectivity has not been ensured, Sinha added. He asserted that there are sufficient EVMs and VVPATs to conduct the poll.
The total number of electors in Aonglenden assembly constituency is 12482; female voters account for 6290 and male voters, 6192. The total number of service electors is 46, all male.
The EP ratio is 552 and gender ratio is 1023. The total number of polling stations is 16; and 15 polling station locations, he updated. The CEO also said that “sufficient” security measures have been taken to ensure free and fair polling.
As of March 26, in poll-related cases, authorities have seized cash amounting to INR 69,57,740; and 19038.949 litre of assorted liquor seized.
