DIMAPUR — The Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) conducted an official inspection across three designated centres in Chümoukedima and Dimapur on March 27.
The inspected centres included the Children with Special Needs Home in Chümoukedima and the Prodigals Home and Thikva Centre for Educational and Vocational Training for the Visually Impaired, both located in Fellowship Colony, Dimapur.
The inspection was undertaken by a team from the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, comprising the assistant superintendent, programme officer, and program coordinator, according to an update.
This was in accordance with the office’s mandate to review the implementation of policies, programmes, and facilities for persons with disabilities.

Awareness programme on addiction conducted at Sao Chang College
The visit focused on assessing living conditions, educational provisions, and vocational training standards available to the residents.
During the inspection, the officials engaged in detailed discussions with the management of each institution.
The key focus areas included ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016; conducting a comprehensive facility audit to assess infrastructure, living conditions, and support services; evaluating the effectiveness of educational and vocational training programmes; and identifying gaps in funding, staffing, or equipment that may require intervention from the concerned departments to enhance service delivery.
