Dimapur, Feb. 24 (EMN): ICAR-NRC on Mithun, the only research institute in the country for mithun and mandated to carry out the research and creating awareness in the society for scientific mithun rearing, has organised a DBT sponsored hands-on training cum workshop on “Popularising biotech awareness among science graduates of Nagaland” for graduate and post-graduate students from February 21-23.
While inaugurating the training workshop, course coordinator Dr. Sabyasachi Mukherjee and other faculty members highlighted on various activities of the DBT Biotech Hub over the years for popularising the knowledge of biotechnology among school and college students of Nagaland.
The inaugural programme was followed by technical sessions in which a deliberations and hands-on biotechnology techniques was conducted with special reference to mithun.
A total of 31 science students of SASRD (NU) and Patkai Christian College participated in the training programme.
Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, in his valedictory speech, has emphasised on the need for biotechnology and its different branches to be studied in the college curricula and motivated the participants to opt biotechnology as a potential career option.
The training was part of a series of training initiatives jointly by the Institute and DBT NERBPMC, GoI, New Delhi, for creating awareness and skills of biotechnology among the science graduates of Nagaland. It was envisaged for dissemination of the knowledge and information of biotechnology among various groups of students located even in the remotest area of Nagaland.
