Schools directed to observe ‘Freedom Fortnight’

KOHIMA, AUGUST 7: Directorate of School Education (DoSE) would join the rest of the country in celebrating ‘Azadi 70 – Yaad Karo Kurbani’ (Freedom Fortnight) from August 9 to 23. In a release, the Additional Director of School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe, informed all the schools in the State- both private and government, to celebrate the fortnight by conducting several activities as put forward by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of School Education & Literacy, New Delhi. The suggested activities included – mass recitation of the National Anthem by all school students at 11 a.m. on August 23 which is the terminal day of the fortnight observation; school children could paint greeting cards for jawans posted at border stations which could be sent to the nearest or any APO for onward forwarding; students might undertake mass tree plantation drive; schools could invite persons who could talk to the students regarding the ‘freedom movement of 1857’ and the independence struggle such as writers, academicians and persons from defence forces (retired or serving) with a focus on martyrs from the state or local area; painting competition; elocution competition; freedom run; essay writing competition; play with freedom movement as theme; slogan writing competition; and patriotic songs-singing competition. In this connection, DoSE has directed all DEO, DDEO, SDEO, principals and head masters to supervise and monitor the activities of the fortnight celebration and submit a brief report of both the government and private schools along with photographs to the Directorate.
