School girl killed, another injured in road accident in Imphal East

IMPHAL — A schoolgirl was killed and another sustained injuries after a van allegedly hit the two students while they were cycling to school at Tejpur in Imphal East on Friday morning.

Officials said the incident occurred around 11.10 am when the van struck the students as they were on their way to Success English School.

The state government expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, conveying condolences to the family of the deceased and solidarity with the injured student and her family. “The driver and vehicle have been apprehended and detained at Lamlai Police Station and an FIR has been registered,” Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar stated in a press release.

As a humanitarian measure, the government announced a relief assistance of INR 5 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased. The injured student is receiving medical attention. Authorities said further investigation is underway.
