Dimapur, Jan. 17 (EMN): Secretary of finance and land resources department, Kikheto Y Sema, has urged the communities to accord equal importance to schools stating that schools are the future of the society. He regretted that communities are more focused on constructing magnificent church buildings but neglected the schools where their children are sent for education.
“Our people wanted to build magnificent church buildings but they neglected our schools, which is not wise,” Kikheto said while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Khiamniungan Sports Council (KSC) meet 2019 in Pathso village in Tuensang district.
Explaining that schools are the centres of knowledge to build the future, Kikheto urged the communities and leaders to give equal focus on education and spirituality. He stated that it should the duty of the communities to support the government for all round development. He said school buildings should be better than churches.
While lauding the Khiamniungan people for their honesty, humbleness, and hard work, the secretary urged them to extend all possible support to the government for further progress.
Pointing out that disunity and internal rift within the society was the reason for slow rate of development in the state, he urged them to remain united for speedy development.
“We as a Naga should know how to live together and progress together. Change can come only when we are united,” Kikheto said while adding that Naga communities should learn from one another.
President of Kohima Sumi Hoho, Dr. Vinito Chishi, who spoke at the event, said the intention of Sumi Hoho was to build and strengthen the relationship with other Naga communities. In this direction, he stated that Sumi Hoho and Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) are working together.
President of Khiamniungan Sports Council, T Elo, in his presidential address, said KSC was formed in 2016 with an objective to promote indigenous games and also to encourage youngsters to take up games and sports. Elo added that apart from the indigenous games, crossbow shooting competition was one of the main events which had been taken up in every sports meet.
