Dimapur, Aug. 19 (EMN): A seminar for institutions about the implementation of scholarship schemes, sponsored by department of School Education, was conducted on August 19 by the district education office of Dimapur at the Holy Cross higher secondary school auditorium.
The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued on Monday updates about the programme.
R Amongla Jamir, the district education officer, delivered the welcome address. She stated that the government of India has introduced many flagship programmes for the welfare of students. These include the mid-day meal, free text books, free uniform and scholarships etc. Some programmes have not been successfully implemented, she said.
The pre-metric scholarship scheme for minorities can help students from economically poor backgrounds to be able to continue studies as many are leaving school due to financial problems, she said.
Jamir therefore requested teachers and school authorities to help create awareness about the schemes to help eligible students avail scholarships to lighten their economic burden, the IPR stated.
A special educator Zuretho Nyuthe who was the resource person for the event, gave presentations about various academic programmes. Nyuthe highlighted the pre-matric scholarship scheme for minorities which was initiated during 2011-13 in the state with the department of School Education as the main agency. Online implementation of the scholarship scheme for 2019-20 will be done through the National Scholarship Portal of the government of India, he said.
The ministry have ‘deregistered’ schools that do not have valid Aishe/Dise codes, the IPR stated. However, it has made a provision for re-registration after obtaining valid code, the IPR stated.
Further, the special educator informed that the submission of online applications for the year 2019 is July 15 to the 15th of October 2019. The last date for first level (institution) verification and second level (district) verification is October 31 and the 15th of November 2019, the IPR stated.
As for the Nagaland government schools students meritorious award, Nyuthe said the award is given at primary, elementary and high school levels. For more details and information one may visit the URL education.nagaland.gov.in.

A similar programme for institutions about the implementation of the scholarships was conducted on August 19 in Wokha, the IPR stated. Principles, headmasters, teachers in charge and teachers from various government and private schools in Wokha district attended the programme, the updates stated.
An official from the directorate of School Education, Jangsemba Tzudir addressed the event. Appraising the heads of institutions regarding the pre-matric scholarship for minorities, he said the scheme was initiated during 2012-13 in the state. The department of school Education is the main agency for implementing the scheme in Nagaland.
The ministry has opened the National Scholarship Portal on the 15th of July 2019 for applying for the online scholarships for 2019-20.
The online implementation of the scholarship scheme shall be done through the National Scholarship Portal of the central government. One may visit the URL www.scholarships.gov.in.
While highlighting the instructions for students and institutions for filling up the forms online and conditions of eligibility, he urged the teachers to assist the students so that students can avail the benefits and opportunity provided by the government.
Tzudir also urged them to ‘give more effort’ as Wokha district applicants are ‘very less comparing with other districts’ in the state.
Tzudir also talked about pre-matric scholarships for Schedule Tribe (ST) students studying in class IX and class X. He said that the objectives of the scheme are to support parents of ST children for the education of their wards studying in said standards. That way, he said, the incidence of students leaving school, especially in the transition from the elementary to the secondary stage, will be minimised. Further, it is to improve participation of ST children in the class IX and class X of the prematric stage. That way, the official said, they can perform better and have a better chance of progressing to the post-matric stage of education.
