Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): The Naga Scholars’ Association (NSA) and representatives of the All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) had a joint meeting on June 17 in Dimapur.
The main focus of the meeting was to identify the challenges in the school education system in Nagaland and to address those challenges towards improving the system.
In order to understand the prevailing problems in the school education system, the private schools are being identified as the focus of the discussion, a press release from the NSA informed.
According to an update, some of the challenges pertain to the ‘step-motherly treatment’ meted to the private schools by the higher authorities concerned is in policy and implementation levels. The issues range from non-representation of the private schools in the policy and decision making by the state authorities concerned and the difficulty in the implementation of the policy decisions relating to such areas as the three language formula and curriculum, the press release stated.
The NSA said the other concern in the education system in the state is the nature of syllabi which has not taken into consideration like important aspects of contextualisation and skill-based vocational education.
They association opined that the importance of curriculum in the Naga context should include the incorporation of Naga identity, culture, and history on the one hand and the need for parity of standardised curriculum to compete with the counterpart students in India. In the process, the students would be equipped to understand one’s own society along with the necessary knowledge and skill to respond to varied life challenges leading to successful life.
