Imphal, Aug. 23 (EMN): Union Minister of State for Textiles, Darshana Vikram Jardosh said in order to increase India’s stake in man-made fibre, some schemes have been initiated as India has mostly cotton based industry and globally people prefer man-made fibre.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Technical Textiles Conference in Imphal on Tuesday, Jardosh elaborated on the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles and the PM Mitra Scheme.
Explaining the vision of the Textile Ministry under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cabinet Minister Piyush Goyal, she lauded Chief Minister N Biren Singh for working with all departments and ministries to take Prime Minister’s vision forward.
She lauded how different ministries of the government and stakeholders are working together towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
Attending the conference, Biren Singh said Manipur is the gateway of India to South East Asia, with its rich textile tradition, strategic location and vibrant entrepreneurial eco-system with significant potential.
Further stating that Asian Highway is progressing fast, he appreciated the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation for the work along Imphal-Moreh highway and highlighted cheap labour, round the clock water supply, power supply, customs office at Moreh, law and order improvement has created investment opportunities for entrepreneurs and industrialists in the State.
He said schemes specifically for the Northeast region have been taken up by the Ministry of Textiles to promote the use of agro textiles and geo-textiles in the region.
The Union Minister also inaugurated the exhibition and launching of awareness under National Handloom & Handicrafts Development Programme in Imphal.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister stressed for ‘one district, one product’ with an objective to expand the market for the weavers and artisans to different parts of the country and target for exports.
She also urged all to avail various schemes and programmes provided by the government to widen their scope and further enhance their products at a larger platform.
The Union Minister also called for organising marketing events in order to expand the market of the local products.
