Dimapur, March 22 (EMN): The directorate of Field Publicity of the ministry of Information and Broadcasting organized an outreach programme at Totok Chingha village in Mon on March 21. An update was received here from the organisers on Thursday.
According to a press release, the programme was initiated in collaboration with the District Child Protection unit of Mon focusing on the central schemes ‘Beti bachao, Beti padhao’ (Hindi for ‘save girl child, educate a girl child’) ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ (Hindi for ‘Clean India Mission’) and ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana’ (Hindi for ‘Prime Minister’s People Money Scheme’).
The updates stated that the chairman of the village’s council Khanjai Konyak was invited as chief guest of the event. In his speech, the updates stated, the chairman said, “Interior communities like Mon and Tuensang requires these programs much often to update the knowledge of the people and alleviate the living conditions of the poverty-ridden society.” He expressed gratitude to the visiting officials for the ‘enriching and opening the eyes’ of the people in the area.
The field publicity office in charge of Mon Lhouzoto Casavi also spoke during the occasion. He introduced the scheme, Beti bachao, Beti padhao which was launched in 2014 by the president of India. The objective of the scheme is to prevent gender-biased sex selection to ensure survival, protection of the girl child, and to allow her to participate in education, it stated.
According to Casavi’s statement, a girl child can open a bank account in any post office in the country from the first day of her birth through her parents and on attaining maturity at 18 years of age, she can renew the account. He added that the scheme provides higher interest earning but to a certain limit of amount which can be deposited in a year.
Further Casavi encouraged parents to ensure girls avail the scheme by getting more information from the child protection agency, the updates added.
