The newly appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, TS Thakur has ordered the final hearing on the case of reservation for women in elections to Nagaland’s municipal bodies, to be held on 12 January 2016 and the matter be disposed off, with no postponement on the matter.
This was informed by the co-convener Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation (JACWR) & advisor Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu in a press release today. She stated that the Chief Justice has earlier this week passed the order for a final hearing in response to the matter raised by the counsel for Naga women, leading Human Rights lawyer Dr. Colin Gonsalves, before the Chief Justice.
Dr. Dzuvichu also stated that the JACWR has held a crucial meeting recently on the ongoing Supreme Court case, with leaders from NMA, Eastern Nagaland Women Organization, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur and Watsu Mungdang in attendance. The committee has unanimously resolved to await the verdict of the Supreme Court, she stated.
