- DIMAPUR — Commemorating
Nagaland Girl Child Day, the State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday distributed 15
bicycles to girl students during a programme held at the premises of its
Regional Business Office (RBO) at Supermarket complex in Dimapur.
- The distribution of bicycle was part of the ongoing
corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at supporting education
and empowering young girls. It was informed that the initiative recognises
schools that are performing well academically and focuses on helping
economically disadvantaged students, particularly girls by providing them with
bicycles to ease their commute to school.
- SBI regional manager, Hubert Wungshim, briefing media
persons, said that the annual initiative was aimed at recognising and
supporting schools by distributing bicycles to girl students. He said this year
they have selected PM SHRI Government High School in Signal Angami, Dimapur.
- "In the previous years, similar initiatives have been
carried out including donations to Government High School, Nagarjan, and
Government Primary School, Poilwa in Peren district. Additionally, bicycles
were also given to El Shaddai Orphanage School, which functions as a home for
children. These initiatives are part of SBI’s ongoing CSR efforts to support
education and empower underprivileged children" the regional manager said.
- On the selection process for beneficiaries of the bicycles,
Wungshim said the school authorities are responsible for identifying the
recipients.
- "The selection is typically based on schools that
perform well academically and have students who are economically
disadvantaged', he said.
- The head teacher of PM SHRI GHS Signal Angami, Piviho Kiba,
and the secretary of the Signal Angami Council, Melevi Natso, expressed their
gratitude to SBI for the generous initiative. They thanked the SBI for their
ongoing support in empowering young girls through education and mobility.
