SBI continues services amid lockdown

State Bank of India (SBI) has been catering to the needs of the customers by providing services even during the lockdown as well as send out government funds to the stranded people across the country.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, SBI chief manager, Kohima, Pemmichon Nakhedei stated that the bank is sending government's monetary aid to those people from Nagaland who are stranded across the country following lockdown in view of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

"Through the list provided by the government, the SBI is sending out money to the individual accounts," she said.

Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, had announced special package for the distressed/stranded citizens outside Nagaland on April 20. According to the government's special package, a sum of INR 20,000 would be allotted to any patient, INR 4,000 each working people/professional and INR 3,000 each to stranded student whoever apply for the facility.

Nakhedei maintained that employees have to go to the bank everyday to cater the needs of the customers. He added that there was no technical issues in transferring money to the beneficiaries outside the state.

"Daily, 100 to 200 people are coming despite lockdown. Serving them is our duty," said Hepuni Bismarck, assistant general manager of SBI Kohima main branch.
He stated that initially there were restrictions on mobility to come to the banks as masks, gloves and senitisers were not available. He added that there was no one to attend to connectivity problem during the initial lockdown period.

It was informed that SBI branches are functioning normally from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm daily for customers to do their banking transactions except on second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays.
