Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): Sazolie College, Jotsoma, hosted a talk on drug abuse, by Major Naresh Kumar from the 3rd Assam Rifles, Kohima on June 28.
The talk was in connection with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which is observed on June 26 every year to create awareness about the problems caused by drug abuse.
Major Kumar dwelt at length on ill effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco through presentation of facts and figures, and by using relevant anecdotes. He gave detailed account of different types of drugs and spoke on the damage they can bring about in all areas of a person’s life. He urged the students to refrain from using all these harmful drugs and work towards becoming effective individuals. He also encouraged them to focus on building their careers and become responsible citizens, and also to positively contribute to building the society and the nation as that is one of the primary goals of education.
Around 260 students of BA Semester III and V, along with the faculty members attended the programme. A brief introduction was given by Dr. Kangzangding Thou, the Principal.
