
Faculty and students of Sazolie College during the
celebration of World Poetry Day on Friday.
- DIMAPUR — Sazolie
College celebrated World Poetry Day by organising a poetry slam championship at
Vineizono Hall on Friday on the theme "Bridging differences and fostering
unity."
- An update from the college stated that the event brought
poetry enthusiasts from all the departments of the college.
- Delivering the keynote address, Sungjemmenla Longkumer,
assistant professor of English, acknowledged the power of poetry as a bridge
between cultures and a mirror to the society in a world faced with exhaustive
challenges.
- Expounding on the role and impact of poetry in the digital
age, she mentioned that poetry is thriving more than ever with the rise of
micro-poetry, visual poetry and the need to caption every picture shared on
various social media platforms.
- It stated 14 participants from 7 departments presented their
original composition in poetry slam competition.
- Luve Lohe of BA 4th semester (Psychology) was declared the
winner for his poem ‘The paradox of unity,’ while Kekhriesiu of BA 2nd semester
(English) won the 2nd position for his poem ‘The blind who see, The deaf who
hears’ and Emei M Konyak of BA 6th semester (English) won the 3rd position for
her poem "Differences empower discrimination.’
- Dr. Kelhouvinuo Suokhrie, head of Linguistics department;
Keneise-ü Gabrielina, head of Psychology; and Nzanthung Kikon, chaplain, were
the panel of judges.
- Toshinaro Imchen, head of English department, delivered the
vote of thanks.
- The programme was organised by English department of Sazolie
College to foster an appreciation for poetry and to amplify creative expression
among students.
