Dimapur, Aug. 5 (EMN): Multiple landslides and sinking of land following incessant rain along an approximate 30 kilometre of road between Tizu bridge and Ghokhuvi under Satoi area in Zunheboto district have cut off number of villages from the district headquarters.
Satoi range students’ union (SRSU) president, Nikato T Ayemi and the general secretary, Homugha Achumi stated that around 11 villages under Satoi area have been severely affected because of the landslides.
SRSU stated that more than five to six landslides, with atleast two major landslides, have occurred between Ghokhuvi and Tizu bridge as well as between Sukhai village and Tizu bridge. The particular road is considered as a life line for 11 villages under Satoi area and with the occurrence of landslides the people in the area are in dire strait as there is no alternate route to reach Zunheboto, Dimapur and Kohima.
In view of the unprecedented natural calamity, SRSU has appealed the state government and the concerned department to immediately look into the matter and redress the problem.
SRSU stated that apart from the landslides, the electricity consumers in Satoi area are not only face hardship due to frequent power black-out but compelled to face the brunt of “untrained employee” at Satoi town headquarter.
Stating that citizens of the area have been facing power cuts for the past days and months, SRSU appealed the department to deploy a trained employee to oversee the situation in Satoi town headquarters.
SRSU cautioned that the department would be held responsible in the event of any unwanted situation if it fails to look into the issue.
In this connection, SRSU appealed the concerned authority to undertake necessary action in order to restore the road and power connectivity at the earliest.
