Satakha launches second phase tree plantation drive

DIMAPUR — Satakha sub-division, Zunheboto district, launched the second phase of its tree plantation drive on Monday, with a sapling distribution ceremony held at the residence of Minister of Road and Bridges, G Kaito Aye.

According to an update, the community-led initiative aims to promote greenery, improve the environment, combat climate change, and beautify Satakha sub-division.

Minister Aye sponsored 1,500 saplings for plantation in seven villages, including Ghukiye, Nikuto, Xukhepu, Zungti, Kulhopu, Shoipu, and Nunumi, as well as Satakha town and areas along National Highway 702A.

The distribution ceremony was attended by councillors of Satakha Town Council, GBs, and council members of the seven villages. Kiyeto Zhimo, councillor of Satakha Town Council, expressed gratitude to the minister for his initiative and sponsorship of 1500 tree saplings.

Zhimo also shared that Zunheboto district and Satakha had already observed World Environment Day on June 5, with a tree plantation drive along National Highway 702A.

Vishiho Zhimo, GB chairman of the Langki Kiliki Tokukukujo (LKT) Joint Council, thanked the minister for prioritising the plantation drive in Satakha sub-division.

He informed that the saplings will be planted in all the approach roads of seven villages, Satakha town and along National Highway 702A.

Earlier, on World Environment Day, Aye had distributed 1,600 saplings to 16 villages and several individuals within Satakha constituency, demonstrating his commitment to environmental conservation, the update stated.
