In a press release, SASU president, Ketholeto Anthony Zashümo, stated that the affected landslide road serves as the lifeline to many students and the commuters, adding that it was their responsibilities to help rebuilt the road and bring it back to normalcy. Meanwhile, SASU also arranged two buses for the students to commute.
It may be mentioned that the landslide had affected seven schools and two colleges in the Southern region as well as the commuters, while it also affected travellers from Manipur. The travellers had to commute through the steep path covered with wet mud on the hill for about 20 minutes.
A student from St. Joseph College, Jakhama, said they have taken permission from the college authority for two days to provide assistance to the people working at the landslide area as it is not the only road leading to their college but they also believe that service to man is service to god.
Altogether 149 volunteers from SASU along with Jakhama Youth Organisation and students of St. Joseph from Viswema and Khuzama are assisting in the work.
SASU, in a press release, stated that they are expecting small vehicular movement by Friday onwards.
