Dimapur, Oct. 14 (EMN): The School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD) conducted its 24th annual school week coinciding with another event, the ‘campus sports meet,’ during October 8-13. The institution conducted the event with the theme “education redefined,” the organisers stated in a press release. Thsuvisie Phoji, additional deputy commissioner of Medziphema, was the special guest of the programme.
In his address during the event, Thsuvise Phoji said that the school week’s activities during the school’s event comprise not only physical activities but also the intellectual aspects. During the event, each one of the participants should test the limits of their physical and mental abilities but it should be with discipline, sportsmanship and ‘utmost coordination with teammates,’ the press release quoted him as having said. It is the spirit of oneness and not winning that is true victory, he told them.
He appreciated the cultural diversity of the college and urged the students to cherish the years they spend in the campus.
In his welcome address, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. T Lanusosang called games and sports a part and parcel of life. He said that participation was more important than winning. He urged all the students to keep a balance between academics and extra-curricular activities as learning involve both mental and physical activities.
For the games, the students were divided into four houses.
To commemorate the yearlong silver jubilee celebrations of Nagaland University, the campus sports event was incorporated with the school’s week, during which the university’s teaching and non-teaching staff competed against the students.
