Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): Along with the rest of the world, All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Honey Bees and Pollinators (AICRP-HB&P), SASRD, NU, Medziphema town, celebrated World Honey Bee Day with the students of Charis Higher Secondary School, Chumoukedima, on May 20.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Avinash Chauhan, assistant scientist, AICRP (HB&P), encouraged the students to be “best friends with bees, who are responsible for giving us food crops etc.”
Bee Professionals have also enlightened the students on the manifold importance of honey bees, which provides not only honey but a host of by-products and most importantly the vital role of bees in pollination.
Altogether, 42 students guided by two teachers, visited AICRP (HB&P) apiary at SASRD, Medziphema. They were also shown a documentary video on honey bees.
The young group were also given a practical demonstration about handling bee colonies and their hives, different types of bees, as well as components that constitute a hive.
