Dimapur, Oct. 22 (EMN): School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University (NU): Medziphema campus, celebrated its 42nd foundation-cum-alumni meet in the campus on October 22. The event was organised by SASRD: NU alumni association and co-sponsored by the alumni of 1985 (8th batch).
The day was marked with a formal programme in the morning followed with alumni general body meeting and a grand evening extravaganza.
Prof. Rakesh Mohan, director of UGC-HRD Centre, NEHU, Shillong, and also a former faculty of SASRD, graced the occasion as the special guest. He expressed his happiness at being in the campus and to be in the presence of the students, faculty and staff of SASRD. He believed that foundation day is a day of joy and to celebrate the history of SASRD, its achievements and also to reflect on the areas that needs improving.
He stated that agricultural institutes in the region play a vital role in producing efficient agricultural graduates; connect developmental research with the society through extension activities. He expressed happiness to see that SASRD was doing exceptionally well and complimented the faculty and supporting staff for their excellent teachings and strong research as reflected by the success of the alumni in different professional fields. He also encouraged the young faculty to apply for more and meaningful projects for the uplift of the society.
On the occasion, AASASRD president, Prof. L Tongpang Longkumer, announced the alumni awards for meritorious students. The awards were given annually in recognition of the outstanding academic excellence of the students and to inculcate a sense of competition among the students.
The “Peri Om Pun Excellence Award” was presented by Prof. T Lanusosang, Pro-Vice Chancellor of SASRD, to Sukanya Bej for her outstanding academic performance in securing the highest OGPA (8.73) in B.Sc (Hons) Ag. 1st year course during 2018-19
The “R2 Seeds Excellence Award” was presented by Prof. Akali Sama, Dean, SASRD, to Achano K Ezung for her outstanding academic performance in securing highest OGPA (8.50) in B.Sc (Hons) Ag. 2nd year course during 2018-19.
The “Late Cherish Ch. Marak Excellence Award” was presented by Prof. V Sharan, department of Agri. Engineering, to Sudipta Samanta for her outstanding academic performance in securing highest OGPA (8.94) in B.Sc (Hons) Ag. 3rd year course during 2018-19.
The “Alumni Award for Academic Excellence” was awarded by the special guest Prof. Rakesh Mohanto to Nzanmongi for her outstanding academic performance in securing the 1st rank with 8.87 OGPA in the B.Sc (Hons) Ag. course during the year 2015-16 to 2018-19.
