- JAKHAMA — The
Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) 63rd Annual Games and Sports, along
with the 4th edition of the Dzukuo Cup, began on Thursday with an inaugural
programme held at Jakhama Local Ground.
- Addressing the event, Kropol Vitsu, Advisor for Prisons,
Printing and Stationery, expressed delight at seeing the participants from the
13 units and added that unity should be upheld.
- Vitsu encouraged the sportspersons to exhibit sporting
discipline in order to achieve success both for themselves and their villages
and areas while highlighting the transformation the sports industry has
undergone. He asserted the need for the pace of sports development to be on par
with the rest.
- Pointing out that during the inaugural event of the Nagaland
Super League (NSL) at Chümoukedima, Paralympian Hokato Hotozhe Sema, an Arjuna
Awardee, was awarded a cash prize of INR 1.5 crore by the state government, he
urged the athletes gathered to be inspired to excel.
- He asserted the need for players to aim for professional
games, citing the ongoing NSL, which he said is essential for athletes to
progress to the Indian Super League (ISL).
- Furthermore, Vitsu also suggested the inclusion of
traditional sports such as Pcheda (throwing thin bamboo sticks) for men and Torü
for women in the SASA meet in order to promote the games.
- The presidential address, delivered earlier by Dr. Vimezo
Kere, encouraged the players to exhibit their sportsmanship in order to
represent SASA at the Angami Sports Association (ASA).
- A total of 13 units, namely Kidima, Kezoma, Kezo Basa,
Pfüchama, Sakhabama, Khuzama, Viswema, Jakhama, Kigwema, Mima, Mitelephe,
Phesama, and Kezo Urban Station, are competing in football, volleyball, and
sepaktakraw. The sporting meet will culminate on February 1.
