SAS organises training for farmers in Sirhima village
Organised by Farmers Cell (FC) of School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, pest management on summer crops was conducted in Sirhima village

Agricultural Sciences and participants after the training for farmers in
Sirhima village on March 10.
- DIMAPUR — The Farmers Cell (FC) of School of
Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS, NU), Medziphema campus,
successfully organised an “On-farm demonstration on seed treatment and
integrated pest management on summer crops” in Sirhima village on March 10.
- The event was aimed at equipping farmers with practical
knowledge and hands-on experience in seed treatment techniques and pest
management strategies, stated an update from SAS, NU.
- The technical session on “Seed bio-priming and seedling
dibbling” was conducted by Dr. Hijam Meronbala Devi, assistant professor and
member of Farmer Cell from the Plant Pathology (PLP) department. She
demonstrated on advanced seed treatment techniques to improve germination and
seedling vigour and strengthening resistance to diseases.
- The technical session on “Integrated pest management” was
conducted by Dr. Sabbithi Pavan, assistant professor and member of Farmer Cell
from the Department of Entomology. He spoke on the biological control of insect
pest management, covering basic practical demonstrations on light traps and
yellow sticky traps.
- It stated that the initiative emphasised the importance of
scientific agricultural practices in ensuring better crop yields and
sustainable farming. It added that the

- A brief remark on the importance of the event was delivered
by Dr. Mary N Odyuo, associate professor and in-charge of Farmers Cell,
followed by a short speech from GB of Sirhima village and a closing remarks
delivered by Dr. Sentimenla Jamir, assistant professor and member of Farmers
Cell.
