DIMAPUR — With a mission to promote organic cultivation in Nagaland, Horticulture department of School of Agricultural Science (SAS): Nagaland University (NU), Medziphema campus, conducted two training programmes on “Application of bio-control agents and vermicompost in plant and soil” in Medziphema village and Sirhi Angasmi village under Chümoukedima district on March 2 and 12 respectively.
The programme at Medziphema village was chaired by Dr. Nini R Kuotsu, while the programme at Sirhi Angami village was chaired by the village council chairman, Mezhiikho Kuotsu, stated an update from SAS: NU.
The resource persons were Dr. Bireswar Sinha, professor of Plant Pathology, and Dr. L Hemanta, assistant professor of Horticulture. They have imparted skills on how to make indigenous effective microorganisms, bokashi, compost, vermicompost and biological control of pests and diseases using locally available eco-friendly resources in hill ecosystem.
Dr. A Sarkar, project PI of Nagaland centre, highlighted the significance of organic cultivation and biodiversity conservation. He also stressed on having a healthy society in Nagaland especially for protection from the menace of cancer in future.
The training concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Chhail Bihari, project associate.
It stated that a total of 43 farmers participated in the training programmes.
