Boxing champion Laishram Sarita Devi today revealed that she had accepted the Bronze Medal, which she had controversially refused it at the recently concluded Incheon Asian Games in Korea, as a stepping stone exercise for the upcoming Olympic Games.
The Indian boxer from Manipur speaking to the media on the sideline of the North East Sports Conclave at Hotel Imphal said she is currently preparing for the Olympic Games. She has already tendered her apology to Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) and is hoping that she escapes a long-term ban from the international federation when AIBA announce its decision this month so that her career is not affected and she can compete in 2016 Olympics.
She is also keeping herself fit to fight for the Olympic qualifying rounds, she added.
Sarita, meanwhile, thanked the sports bodies and officials including personality like Sachin Tendulkar for supporting her cause.
It may be mentioned that the Indian boxer was provisionally suspended by AIBA after she refused to accept her medal following a controversial semifinal loss in Incheon Asian Games.
