WOKHA — An awareness programme on human trafficking was organised at Santsuo School, Wokha, on Thursday to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The programme was organised by the district administration, Department of Social Welfare, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC), and Child Helpline Wokha, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.
Held on the global theme "Trapped behind the scam", the programme sought to sensitise students on the dangers of human trafficking, its various forms, and the growing risks posed by online scams and digital platforms.
Addressing the gathering, Nzanmongi, Case Worker (Legal) at Sakhi-OSC, highlighted the deceptive methods traffickers often employ to lure vulnerable individuals through fraudulent online schemes and false promises. She stated the need for students to remain informed, vigilant, and cautious while interacting with people, especially on digital platforms.

Students were also educated on recognising warning signs of trafficking and encouraged to report suspected cases to the appropriate authorities.
Information on available helpline services was shared to ensure timely assistance and intervention for victims or those at risk.
The organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would empower young people with the knowledge and confidence to safeguard themselves and contribute to preventing human trafficking within their communities.
