Sansad Khel Mahotsav in Wokha concludes with over 295 students competing, highlighting youth talent, sportsmanship and athlete development.

DIMAPUR — The ‘Sansad Khel Mahotsav’, organised by Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, S Pangnon Konyak, in collaboration with the district administration and the District Sports Office, Wokha, concluded on November 15.
According to an update, delivering the inaugural address, CH R John Zeliang, executive director (tech) and head of Power, Doyang Hydro Power Station, NEEPCO/NTPC Ltd., explained that ‘Sansad Khel Mahotsav’ translates to “Parliament Sports Festival”, a celebration of youth talent that is being staged not only in Wokha but across the nation.
“We may be a small district,” he said, “but we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with every Indian who believes in the power of sport to unite and uplift.”
He outlined five essential pillars for aspiring athletes, which included health and rest through nourishing food and adequate sleep; discipline through a structured routine; a clean and supportive environment; proper infrastructure such as fields and indoor stadiums; and serious training through consistent practice.
He urged the participants to embrace these principles, assuring them that dedication on the field translates into success in life.

Nzano P Kikon, deputy chairperson, WTC, in her speech, informed the gathering that MP Rajya Sabha, who was scheduled to address the Sansad Khel Mahatsav, could not be present due to unforeseen circumstances. On her behalf, she conveyed her apologies and appreciation for the enthusiasm and spirit that made the event possible.
Later, during the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony, Libemo Jami, assistant director, Youth Resource Services (YRS), as the guest of honour, assured participants that the department is committed to supporting exceptional athletes. This support will include scholarships, expert coaching, and a dedicated pathway to nurture promising players into future leaders.
He said that sport opens substantial employment opportunities and that the government is actively working to create such avenues. Jami also stressed the importance of technology in today’s competitive arena, noting that without embracing innovation the country cannot hope to match the performance of other nations.
Jonthungo Ezung, councillor, WTC, also delivered a brief speech and urged the participants to view the Mahotsav as a stepping-stone toward greater achievements.
A total of 295 students from 16 schools across Wokha took part in various sporting disciplines.
