
DIMAPUR — Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) across Nagaland commemorated World Toilet Day 2024 by organising various activities on the theme “Toilet: a place for peace.”
The World Toilet Day in Dimapur was observed at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner office. The event was organised by PHED Dimapur Urban and Rural divisions to raise awareness about the significance of sanitation aimed at emphasising the role of toilets in ensuring health, dignity and harmony in society.
The World Toilet Day campaign 2024 commenced on November 19 and would culminate on December 10.
The programme in Dimapur was attended by the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dimapur, Zakabo Rotokha, who encouraged the department to conduct the campaign successfully. Speaking on the occasion, the ADC spoke on the launch Janjatiyan Gaurav Divas (November 15 to 26).
The event was aimed at promoting socio-economic uplift of the tribal population and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the country by motivating the coming generations.
Highlighting that JJM and SBM (G) have played significant role in uplifting the welfare of the rural villagers in the state, Rotokha stated that the campaign would create awareness on the impact of such welfare schemes for tribal areas.
In a separate programme, the Baptist High School (BHS) in Tening town under Peren district observed World Toilet Day on November 19.
The event was observed as part of the ‘Hamara Shauchalay, Hamara Samman’ (Our toilet, our respect) campaign, the school informed in an update stated.
Volie Rentta, SDO of PHED Tening and the guest speaker of the event, shared on hygienic living and stressed on ‘No see, No smell and No touch,’ while Khiunailiu Rentta made a demonstration on proper hand washing, following which toilet cleaning was undertaken by Class 10 girls.
The programme was chaired by the school headmaster, Kenkhambo.
The World Toilet Day was also observed in Tuensang at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office. Report stated that the DC of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, and district coordinator, Fairyson, spoke on the objectives of Jal Jevan Mission (JJM).
It added that the executive engineer of PHED, Tuensang, Kedolhuto Punyu, spoke on the occasion.
