Dimapur, April 7 (EMN): An elephant calf that reportedly strayed into a locality in Sanis in Wokha district was “rescued” by youths from the area.
According to a press release from a local green activist called ‘Green-Sons,’ the calf was rescued by members of “Green Succession of Nagaland state” and youth volunteers from Sanis town.

It is being reported that a power grid line from Doyang Neepco to Dimapur sparked at the very spot where two elephants got electrocuted a couple of months back,’ the press release stated.
The group speculated that the herd ‘might have left the calf owning to electric spark from low hanging electrical line. It is also suspected that some adult elephants might have been electrocuted thought it is not certain as the spot is yet to be inspected due to some risk associated tensions.’
The authorities have been informed and ‘necessary steps are being initiated from their side, the updates stated.
Meanwhile, the Green-Sons has urged the Neepco at Doyang to, according to the press release, ‘initiate an urgent rectification of the power grid lines and to arrange proper precautionary measures to avoid human and animal eventualities before any serious uprising unrest arises against the company.’
