Sangtam community condemns arson

Dimapur, Dec. 11 (EMN): Sangtam People’s Forum Dimapur District (SPFDD) has strongly condemned the act of Hukato, kilonser of NSCN (Unification), and his henchmen, who allegedly burnt down 18 houses and damaged properties besides manhandling women and children on December 10. SPFDD president, Bitong, and the information secretary, Imlikumzuk Sangtam, alleged that Hukato had even threatened the village leaders with dire consequences. “The callous act of Hukato for misusing his authority/ power which emanated from the mandate of the Nagas by using his government agents, arms and ammunition to threaten and terrorise the general public is uncalled for and total abuse of power which is condemnable by one and all,” the organisation stated. The forum has demanded to know if he was authorised by the NSCN (Unification) government. It not, it demanded to know on what authority he had openly targeted the Sangtam Nagas when all Nagas are yearning for peaceful co-existence. It was surprised that such ‘outrageous and despicable incident’ occurred when the Dimapur district was imposing a complete bandh spearheaded by Public Action Committee (PAC) against the high handedness and abuse of power by some group/ individuals against the business community. The forum stated that such terrorist activity should be condemned by all right thinking Nagas.
