Sangtam community celebrates Amongmong festival

Dimapur, Sep. 3 (EMN): The Sangtam Naga community celebrated Amongmong festival, described to be a ‘festival of food production, blessing and prosperity’ on September 3 in Kiphire district. The festival is observed during the first week of September every year, updates stated. The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave on Tuesday updates about the festivities. ‘It is celebrated after toiling for several months during the year and when the crops are ripe for harvest, the green signal to start the celebration of Amongmong is given by the village priest called Beruru with due prayers and rites,’ the IPR stated. ‘They pray in the festival called Akatsingkithsa. The Sangtam tribe believes that the celebration of Amongmong festival will please God. They hope for blessings, a rich harvest and good health in the family from God,’ the IPR stated.
