Coming together to raise funds for a young violinist to pursue further studies in Music, the Symphony Academy of Music Kohima (SAMK) in association with Music Task Force (MTF) presented a concert titled ‘Emotive Strings’ on August 28 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma.
The concert featured Nourhevilie Khate, a violinist; Zubeni Kikon; Harmonic Voices Nagaland; Virie; Neilhoukholie; Visahu; Arenungsang and Kosapong.
The Symphony Academy of Music organised the concert to raise funds for Nourhevilie Khate to pursue his second year of Masters in Violin Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music, London.
Nourhevilie Khate embarked on the journey of playing the violin at the age of eight. He was taught, instructed and trained by Keneilenyü Nagi, R Khrielie Kevichüsa and Arun Sebastian Rosario, including master classes from various professors.
The young violinist who completed his bachelor of Theology from Southern Asia Bible College, Bangalore also taught in Symphony Academy of Music Kohima; Music Academy Kohima, Hope Centre for Excellence, Dimapur and Bangalore School of Music.
He also played for India National Youth Orchestra; Canada-India Youth Orchestra; Indo-German Youth Orchestra, BSM Chamber Orchestra and Purple Fusion (a folk fusion band from Nagaland).
At young age as a violinist, Nourhe has won the David Menezes National Violin competition 2014; Grade 8 ABRSM; Fewkes Memorial Trophy for best candidate, Thumboochetty Violin prize and Bangalore’s ABRSM high achiever award.
Nourhevilie Khate was also one of the two Indians to receive the Rumi Foundation Great Indian Scholarship to study in Trinity Laban for the academic year 2016-17.
